Representation matters, but so do mirrors (reflections of oneself), windows (lived experiences of others that are different than ones own) and doors (an invitation to learn more). "Be the mirrors" means to be the reflection of greatness. Who are our children aspiring to become? Can they see a reflection of their potential in us?
We don't live in a bubble. While representation in children's literature is important, so is the need for our children to see themselves and their lived experiences reflected in the stories that they read.
